Law Forum : Mississippi African Americans besieged by illegal searches, ACLU lawsuit says

Two different things.

Yes, there are AAs who wanted the system to be harder on CRIME. They wanted to rid their neighbors of CRIMINALS, specifically drug dealers and users, imo. But, that doesn't translate to RANDOM STOP AND FRISK of every AA or Latino citizen as the stats infer.

They weren't asking for the racial profiling case of Johnny Cochran in Los Angeles,

They weren't talking about the arrest of Henry "Skip" Gates, who was arrested for breaking into his own home,

I believe they were talking about drug dealers and users that could be searched with JUST CAUSE. Not just RANDOM AAs. I could agree with that. But, that is not what we are talking about here.

Remember the stats:

PS: This is not personal. It is not about me or my family. My family and I are not so far removed from the AA communities you speak of. We have invested in those communities and we have owned businesses in those communities. Have you?

Your Stats are contained to NYC....now how and the heck does that translate to (((EVERY))) AA or Latino in the USA?.

In my hood albeit a scaled down version of NYC we faced the exact same dilemma i.e., how can we rid our streets of high crime without alienating law abiding citizens. In moss-side back in 2002 myself and a bunch of others lobbied Manchester town hall practically begging for more police presence on our streets...we did this because our children were being indirectly threatened by mindless criminals in our hood.

To cut a long story short our demands were met but we got more than we bargained for. Local councillors enlisted an anti-gang unit called Xcalibre and they ran rough shod throughout Sth Manchester...innocent residents had their doors kicked in and were arrested, random stop and search was implemented throughout Sth Manchester. However, once the dust settled gun crime dropped by a massive 90%.
