"A fool and his money are soon parted" is not in the bible. The quote is a proverb found in the poem "Five Hundred Points of Good Husbandry" by Thomas Tusser

"God helps those who help themselves" is not in the bible. The quote is by Sidney Algernon (1622-1683) in his "Discourses on Government."

"God helps them that help themselves" is not in the bible. The quote is by Benjamin Franklin in "Poor Richard's Almanac" of 1757.

"Cleanliness is next to godliness" is not in the bible.

"Money is the root of all evil" 1 Timothy 6:10 says "For the love of money is the root of all evil" KJV

"Spare the rod, spoil the child" Proverbs 13:24 says "He that spareth his rod hateth his son" KJV

    7 Bible Misquotes/Untruths

    The Sabbath day is Sunday
People who worship on Sunday tend to claim that the "Sabbath Day" of the bible was Sunday. This is completely wrong as the bible clearly says that the seventh day was the Sabbath. (Exodus 20:10)

Sunday is the first day of the week, and Christian worshipers worship on this day because the first Christians did. (Acts 20:7, 1Corinthians 16:1).

This they did because Jesus said to remember his death and resurrection when we come together to break bread. What better day to do it than on the day He was resurrected from the dead. The Sabbath was for the Jews' worship. The first day of the week (not referred to as the Sabbath at all in the bible) is the day for Christians' worship.

    Three Wise Men?
The bible talks about the wise men, but nowhere does it ever say that there were three of them. Children's authors and song writers now perpetuate this idea without knowing where it has come from. I think that the world has decided that there were three of them because they brought three different gifts, but we have no idea exactly how many men were there.

Finally, Deuteronomy 29:29 says “The secret things belong to the Lord our God, but those things which are revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may do all the words of this law.”

If one believes by faith, then it is easy to take what is given and wait until the day when more can be revealed to us.

Jesus Was in a Stable When Wise Men Came to Visit Him as a Baby
In school plays, and in writings about the birth of Christ, we more often than not hear/read about the wise men visiting Jesus in a stable. This however, is not from the bible.

Matthew 2:11 says that they visited him at a house. Remember that the only reason Mary and Joseph were forced to stay in a stable was because they could find no other accommodation since everyone else was in town for the census. They did not chose to be there, especially with a little baby on the way. It makes sense that they would've found alternative accommodation as soon as they could. By the time the wise men came to see them, they had moved their new born to a more comfortable abode. Any parent would.

Cherry forgive me if you feel this is an intrusion. I will not offer any information. I would just like to know this. What if you are offering some incorrect and/or imprecise information when you share some of the things with your Christian brothers and sisters? Should those of us who know better remain silent in order to "respect" the fact that we do not subscribe to the same religion? Or should we offer FACTS (and only facts, no opinions) that help you all in your quest for truth?

    Good stuff

Thanks Crerryblossom. I thank u because there are a lot of christians who are not willing to admitt that there is Christian dogma and propaganda out there that are not accurate. Too many of our people opperate off of blind faith. When we study the divine records for ourselves and have the curage to accept what we have comprehended it is our job to educate others on our findings.

No, you do not have to "remain silent."

    Correct!

The first Christians did this because Mithra followers (most of Rome) were already worshiping on this day, so they incorporated this into Christianity just as they took MOST of the other customs of Christianity from Mithranism.

If Jesus rose on the First day (or Sunday) when did he die?

    1 Cor. 11:15

But if a woman have long hair, it is a glory to her: for her hair is given her for a covering.

I've heard this misquoted by some men saying that a woman's hair IS "her glory" but that is insulting, as if a woman with short hair is LESS a woman than one with long hair.

This is a great thing you've done cherryblossom!

I remember reading the Scriptures and recognizing all the things I thought were in the bible but are actually people misquoting according to what they think is in the bible.

It's always best to have faith in the Holy Son to teach us understanding of the Holy Doctrine, rather than letting man dictate our thoughts with quotes passed down of which many don't even know the origin.
