    Mildred...my Mildred
    BY Monad.poetress

Sitting on the stoop watching Mildred's children play
They watched as I watched Mildred dwindle away
She used to be my candy lady
    selling all those treats
Now she's just My Mildred who always walks the streets
All the times I used to watch Mildred braiding hair
Now she walks around like she doesn't give a care
Mildred used to have the prettiest smile
Now I haven't seen her smile in a while
Her kids call her Mildred just like we do
They have no idea what Mildred goes through
Walking the streets looking for a "kid"
Who knew Mildred would fall like she did
Mildred is now a distant memory to me
only a mere shell of what she used to be
    Her eyes aren't the same
    Their dark and sad
Why did Mildred's life have to go so bad
All those times she pinched my jaws
Always paid her bills and followed all the laws
Now I see her gliding down the street
Searching for dope in the summer's heat
93 degrees but it feels like much more
My poor Mildred has turned into a whore
    My Mildred...I cry for her
because I remember what she used to be
    Mildred....my Milded
    Please come back to me

    WOW

    This was absolutely phenomenal...

so well written, it flowed so smooth
    and with such imagery...
you can't help but see "Mildred"...
in the face of that person we all
    have known, in the neighborhood
that fell prey to something that
brought them so low in life...
Sister...I've wept for a "Mildred" or two myself...

    This was just incredible...

Poet...your pen spoke volumes in this peace.

    Masterfully Written!

Such a sad soul you have portrayed in this piece, you can't help but ache for her. You definitely painted a clear picture of this woman here.
