:new: I pity the woman, worn and weary,
All so hopeless and dreary,
As she thinks of her children that were sold,
But her grief cannot be known.

The Lord is awake to the wrong,
Mercy and Salvation to the Lord belong!

Looking back on the days of her youth
Where the master withheld knowledge and truth,
Forbidden to read, not allowed to pray.

The Lord is awake to the wrong,
Mercy and Salvation to the Lord belong!

No more shall the master raise the lash,
And sink it in her human flesh,
There power no more remains,
Beneath her feet no more slavery chains!

The Lord is awake to the wrong,
Mercy and Salvation to the Lord Belong!
