MERCANTILISM & CAPITALISM IN THE BIBLE By Andre Austin Mercantilism =the profit from the sale of a product Before Rome was an Empire the Phoenicians, a mixed people, were the greatest ship merchants in the world until three epic punic (Phoenicians/Carthage) wars ended their economic might. However our Economic language of associating Money with water remains along with Mercantile Law. Why else say “Dock your pay”, Liquid assets. When European started to engage in Slavery Mercantilism was replaced with Capitalism. Capitalism=Profit from another’s Labor. Malcolm X said you can’t separate Slavery from Capitalism. The Bible condemns mercantilism. If the Bible was written today in 2015 it would substitute Mercantilism with Capitalism. The most evil thing, in the eyes of the whiteman, is to nationalize a country’s resources so that its products can benefit all citizens instead of a select, elite oligarchy. Jesus has no fishing for money in the water to pay Rome its Taxes. The Bible’s take on Mercantilism/Capitalism: Revelation 18:17-24New International Version (NIV) 17 In one hour such great wealth has been brought to ruin!’ “Every sea captain, and all who travel by ship, the sailors, and all who earn their living from the sea, will stand far off. 18 When they see the smoke of her burning, they will exclaim, ‘Was there ever a city like this great city?’ 19 They will throw dust on their heads, and with weeping and mourning cry out: “‘Woe! Woe to you, great city, where all who had ships on the seabecame rich through her wealth! In one hour she has been brought to ruin!’ 20 “Rejoice over her, you heavens!Rejoice, you people of God!Rejoice, apostles and prophets! For God has judged herwith the judgment she imposed on you.” The Finality of Babylon’s Doom 21 Then a mighty angel picked up a boulder the size of a large millstone and threw it into the sea, and said: “With such violencethe great city of Babylon will be thrown down, never to be found again.22 The music of harpists and musicians, pipers and trumpeters, will never be heard in you again. No worker of any tradewill ever be found in you again. The sound of a millstonewill never be heard in you again.23 The light of a lampwill never shine in you again. The voice of bridegroom and bridewill never be heard in you again. Your merchants were the world’s important people. (Phoenicians)By your magic spell all the nations were led astray.24 In her was found the blood of prophets and of God’s holy people,of all who have been slaughtered on the earth.” This reflects a Roman slant to the book of Revelations. Because its commentary is in part talking about when the Phoenicians rule economically and politically. When Titus defeated the Jews in Jerusalem in 70AD he told them “nay indeed, you can’t but know that the very Carthgians have been conquered by us” (War of the Jews Book 6 chapter 6; 332) Recall when the Ethiopians/Carthians conquered the city of Babylon they called themselves Babylonians (From Babylon to Timbuctoo by Rudolph Windsor p.14). Also “Heliopolis, Egypt in Ptolemaic times Became known as Babylon” (Ancient Egyptian Literature By Miriam Lichtheim Volume 1 p.204 All this talk in the Bible about the Poor will always be with us in Matthew 26:11 based on Deuteronomy 15:11. The world does not have to be in poverty and conflict, its manipulated to be that way. The New Testament didn’t incorporate Cannibalism as a sin of military defeat in the Old Testament. They reversed it to be a Military victory of the Romans over Jesus being ate up and the militant messianic revolution that was going on against Titus. Now your in capitalism and individualism of dog eat dog. Instead of getting into Mutual assistance agreements with eachother we sabotage and neutralize our own Political, economic and social power. You social abort yourself, economically spend with everyone except self and Politically have no representation except a symbolic Vote without substance. You don’t fight for black rights you fight for Civil Rights which they watered down into a Consumers Right Movement. Why do you cooperate with people who don’t hire black people or buy from black people. Learn the history of Economic and how the bible was used as a rationalization for slavery. The NT doesn’t condemn slavery it embraces it. Rome wrote the Gospels in part as war propaganda and economic domination of the Jews which they were unsuccessful but victors over blacks. Use Mercantilism and capitalism to your advantage not your defeat.
