    Mental Slavery

    I need my free
    My mind needs free
    from slavery
    My mind needs free

    Free from the dreams
    that haunt
    My past
    still smell burning bodies
    Of Little boys, little girls
    Old women and men
    In massive graves

    Their bodies
    Soiled with fuel
    Souls being sent to Heaven
By the strike of a match

    How can I forget
    I was part of genocide
    A slave of the Government
    9 years of servitude
    In this senseless thing
    Called the mili-scary

    I need my free

    Like birds
    Soaring
    Wings flapping in the wind
    Never worrying
    I pray to G_D
    my soul to keep
    Please take away
    the demons in my sleep

    But how can I forget
    the past
    The memories
    Haunting my present

    still dreaming of the 3
    murdered by me
    Victims of war
    Killed by my hands

    Victims of Mohammed Aidids’
    murderous ways
    But I still feel burdened

    I need my free

Here is the story of the 3
    Lying dead
    Because of me

    On guard duty
    across the way stood
    The fixtures of connexes
    Built three-high

    Climbing over them
    I see them
    Walking in the compound
yelling “Stop” but they did not
Again yelling “stop”, still ignoring me
    They kept walking
Not knowing what was about to happen

    shots fired over their heads
    They began to run frantic
    Then I shot again
    This time aiming

    My M-16 felt heavy
    Sweat rolling down my face
    BANG, the first one fell
    I kept shooting
    ‘Til the others fell
    What had I done

    I need my free

    4 rounds shot
    3 dead bodies
    Lying on the sand-covered ground
In a war zone in Somalia

    The ****** up part
    They were just kids
Teenagers, not much younger than me
    19, killing 3 kids

    According to Uncle Sam,
    I did nothing wrong
    But this guilt
    Since then
    Nightmares overtake me
    Each and every day

    So I pray,
    “G_D can you forgive me
    For sinning
the way I sinned that day”

    I need my free
    My mind needs free
    Free, free from mental slavery

I had an uncle who fought in Vietnam
when he returned he was never the same
I wrote a poem about him...and the images
that were burned into his mind
    etched into his heart
    and scarred his soul...
(many that resemble the ones in this piece)
so much so...he buried himself in the bottom
    of a liquor bottle...
it was the only way that he was able to cope
no one can ever know the horrors
    that a soldier endures...

    very vivid, descriptive and real
    keep the ink flowing
    ~Sage
