Black Education / Schools : Meet the DeVos family — super-wealthy right-wingers working with the religious right to destroy publ

lol...you already know. But race has nothing to with reading, writing and math so when you say "afrocentric" are you advocating that we only teach our children african history? Help me understand exactly what an afrocentric educational curriculum looks like or better, can you provide an example?

Come on now, get a grip! Race has everything too do with reading, writing, and arithmetic!!! Who do you think invented all three? Afrikan people of course. How else did our ancestors build the pyramids, and all of those magnificent structures in the Nile Valley? If you want too know what an Afrocentric curriculum looks like, you will have too do some serious reading of Afrikan history and culture. Start with "The Destruction of Black Civilization" by Chancellor Williams, and "To Be Afrikan" by Dr. Marimba Ani.

Many cultures with zero financial and/or tangible resources much less any resources we Black Americans take for granted not only survive but progress quite well despite adversity & other negative external influences, perfect American example: The Amish. Others too but I've leave it with them.

Are you serious! The Amish are white, European, or haven't you noticed?

African American students are thriving in Afro-centric schools

Louise Brown (2007, November 10). Black only, but don't use the `S' word; Children are thriving in Afro-centric schools south of the border. Advocates argue that progressive segregation is the only way to reach troubled African American students. "Public schools have failed African-American students, which is shown in lower graduation rates and lower achievement," says education professor Carol Lee of Northwestern University, founder of the Betty Shabazz charter school in Chicago, whose three campuses boast 825 students from kindergarten to Grade 12. Abstract (Summary) "Given the condition of the urban landscape, our children need to be culturally centered to learn, and they're not," said Raton, whose school begins each day with a black history fact, a pledge of pride and a message based in "black old-school values" of courtesy and respect for elders. "African-centric schools have sprung from the belief that African-American students living in a society with a history of racism and stereotypes need a form of socialization that provides them with sociological buffers," [Carol Lee] said.

I am fine with the destruction of public schools. As black folk integration into that system was one of the worst mistakes we ever made. As far as Afrocentric education goes, that ship has sailed. We must first do simple steps like getting our collective self esteem back. Because if we do not have that, then whatever positive things we are taught as a people will simply be rejected.
