natural woman (excerpt from a novel in the working)
I embrace my natural beauty
finding my flaws to be not that at all
just unique
whose to say that my nose is a bit
broader than most
it is a horizon taking in earth’s freshness
my hair is free
free of chemical chains
and not tied to or attached to
anything I wasn’t born with
when the summer rain comes
i won’t run to find shelter from the wetness
i’ll stand with my head back
and open arms
thanking god for nature
thanking god for change
for baptizing me in the rain
and making me naturally
woman
