There is still interest from promoters and HBO executives in staging an April 8 showdown between Floyd Mayweather and Zab Judah. Judah's shocking loss to Carlos Baldomir on January 7 took some of the luster off the proposed matchup, but he may just get a pass from that lackluster performance as boxing powerbrokers believe Zab lost mainly because he was not focused or motivated for that bout. That isn't expected to be a problem against Mayweather. It isn't unprecedented when a popular fighter is upset, that he still moves into a big fight soon after. 'El Terrible' Erik Morales himself is coming into next weekend's superfight with Manny Pacquiao after dropping an HBO-televised showcase fight against Zahir Raheem and that event is doing big business. Also, who can forget Julio Cesar Chavez' shocking loss in a tuneup to unrated Willy Wise in 1999? He not only got his title shot against Kostya Tszyu a few months later, but kept his #1 WBC ranking.

Judah still IBF champion!

IBF championship chairman Lindsey Tucker has cleared up some confusion concerning the status of Zab Judah after his loss to Carlos Baldomir on January 7 at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Judah is still the IBF welterweight champion because his title was not on the line as Baldomir did not comply with IBF rules for sanction.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Baldomir did not pay IBF sanction fees.
Rule 2.B: Sanction Fees – In each title contest, the promoter must submit payment of the entire sanction fee for promoter and contestants to the IBF/USBA Bout Supervisor at the Rules Meeting.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Baldomir did not participate in the second day weigh-in.
Rule 1.F: Second Day weigh-In – There shall be a second weigh-in on the morning of the event. At this weigh-in, boxers cannot weigh more than 10 pounds over the weight limit. If either boxer does not make the weight, the fight cannot proceed as a Championship bout.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
As an aside, a condition of sanction is that all boxers fighting for IBF titles must become a participant in the IBF retirement and trust plan. This is a savings plan for boxers to ensure that they have some money put aside when they retire from boxing. Baldomir refused to join the plan.

Yes it does...

HOWEVER, he still lost a fight he should have won.

Anyway, Judah would have lost one belt. Mayweather and Judah could still fight for the other belts.

But, given what happen in Carlos' case, Judah has all of his belt and Judah got paid with no consequences except a bruised ego for losing against someone he should won against. Life is grand. :D

Hey the same happened to Erik Morales against Zahir Raheem, and he went on to fight a scheduled rematch against Manny Pacquiao, only to get KO'd against Pacquiao last night. I seen the same in the Mayweather-Judah fight.
