I constantly tell people this. It's almost a mantra (without invoking the image of a little white kid, though ...lol).
OMGoodness! I just re-read it. Nope. I disagree. Totally. We do NOT "pick" our childhood programming. It is foisted upon us by our parents. No kid decides they are worthless human beings, or that being "pretty" is the be-all and end-all of their worth/popularity/success, or program themselves to be the "whipping boy" of their families.
