Matthew A. Cherry's "Hair Love" Win's Oscar!
Chicago’s very own Mathew A. Cherry, former NFL Player turned Academy Award-winning Film Director was welcomed home on February 20, 2020, to a Black History Celebration by Macy's and a toast to his latest success - an Oscar!.The celebration included a screening of his short film "Hair Love" followed by a "Q&A" where Cherry discussed making the film to show the positive representation of Black fathers in the media and to normalize Black hair. The 7 minute animated film about a father learning to comb his daughter's natural hair for the first time, “Hair Love” is available on Youtube. Hair Love was also turned into a children’s book which is available for purchase.
