    ladies & gents

in your very honest opinion i would like you to answer this question:

is there a very thin line between masochism (the act or an instance of deriving pleasure from being offended, mistreated, or dominated) and optimism (the belief that good will ultimately triumphant over evil)?

    what do you say?

btw - pan i would really love/appreciate if YOU chime in. thanks in advance.

i don't see any relationship at all.
deriving pleasure from being mistreated is a mental illness that needs to be dealt with.

huh? chew on it, as in 'think' about it. i don't have to know you in any capacity to suggest that you 'chew on it'. where is your mind....nevermind. i think you are a wee bit touchy.

no need to elaborate either....how much more can i simplify this question, james?

I'm curious about why you'd want my thoughts on this subject? Do I display masochism in my posts?

That's a deep question. I can see why you would ask that question.

Both have the same physical or mental attributes but they are different in "intent." I believe a masochist would seek out such treatment where as an optimist endures such treatment in order to reach their goal or to achieve a specific purpose.

Masochists would do something on purpose in order to be punished or treated harshly. In other words, that is their goal...the punishment itself. The goal of optimists is not the punishment in and of itself. It's goal is entirely different. But, they must endure the punishment in order to reach their goal.

    I hope I'm clear on that. :D

it's just that you are one of the members whose post i (appreciate, learn from, and relate to) look forward to reading on the board. most of the time when i'm done reading your post i walk away a little more informed than before i read your post...and i like that. that's all.

ps- i'll understand if you don't want to answer.
