Black People Politics : Marion Barry's remarks on Filipino nurses draw criticism

Marion Barry is invincible. He can say whatever he wants.

Yeah, but is what he saying truth or not, that's what I am wondering, not in regards to Philipine nurses, but foreigners taking jobs from Black people. If he is speaking truth, then why would he be condemned and then apologize.

Peace Chevron Dove..

Actually.. it sounds like something a crackhead would say in the lobby after those same nurses saved his life. ;)

Seriously though.. If they are qualified for the job, they should be hired. This is not sweatshop labor in another country.. These are essential jobs. It would be different if their was some surplus of qualified american nurses out work.. but that's not the case. Their is a shortage of nurses.. and that's the reasons those hospitals are full of immigrant workers. And the word immigrant should not be used as a dirty word. People are people. And those people in that hospital are taking care of everyone that comes in those doors.. including our people. So.. from where I'm sitting, what he said was shortsighted and oversimplified and I'm sure his constituency just loved it. I'm sure it galvanized them.. and I'm sure his racialist platform is that much stronger now that he spoke "the truth" to the immigrants.. Even while the streets are running red with the blood of his people.. and the schools are hemorrhaging black boys.. getting ready for their seasonal trek to the criminal justice system. I'm sure it felt good to say something negative about some other group of people.. you know.. they did, afterall, elect a disgraced man to represent them in their district.. probably on some forgiveness tip.. never mind what message that sends to the young folk.. .or to the rest of the nation.

anyway.. that's how I see it.

Man I'm sick and tired of American's jobs getting outsourced. I lost my last job because it was outsourced to the Phillipines. So go head Marion Barry tell it like it is.

these are not outsourced jobs. their is a shortage of nurses.. so their are not american nurses being skipped over.. their just aren't enough americans going to nursing school. that is completely different than outsourcing.
