My Motherdear turned 90 today
I woke up, thankful to see
pre-dawn and I wondered:
what must it feel like
to know 9 decades of love
she was barely 13 when she
left her parents' home
5 decades she lived with my granddaddy
and bore him three children,
William Vernon, the
man she never replaced
in matrimony after he died
for nearly 3 decades she's
enjoyed the sweet
companionship of Bill, 20 years
her junior (go head Motherdear!)
we all love Mr. Bill
cuz he takes care of "Miss Laura"
I woke up this morning
thinking about my grandmother's
rich, full life
filled with smiles, wisdom,
and yes, the tears
She's my ultimate renaissance
woman;
my supreme role model,
Laura is
so selfishly I hold her close
and I wish her A HUNDRED mo years
