    Don't worry mama
    you cried for too long
    but don't worry
I see you humming a song
a lil baby strapped on your aching back
a clay water-pot balanced on your head
barefeet she walks across the savannah
the morning dew wets her bare nipples
    through valleys and hills
thorn brush tearing through her heels
    with eleven kids to feed
worries and stress have become a daily drill
by six the cows have to be milked
    kissing the kids goodbye
    mama cries
ten miles they walk to school
    surely they need some shoes
but papa drank the money on some cheap brew
last night mama got a beating
because of the leak in the mud ceiling
the morning coffee with no sugar
tastes good over duck egg with brown porridge
these are the tears mama cries in the morning.

An ode to my grandma, ma momz and all African women for holding it down...
