How do you know when someone close to you is lying?
For me it's observation. If I've been around them awhile (a couple wks or so).....mannerisms become a part of discovery. It could be inflection of speech, actions, to name a few.
how does it look, feel, and smell?
sometimes things can look a certain way and the complete opposite is going on, and then there's the saying 'actions speak louder than words'
That depends on how good they are
I guess sometimes you don't know until the lie has been exposed by its growing too big to control or them confessing. For me, I pay attention to mannerism, like butterfly#1 stated. Just certain things give it away, but I always try to give the benefit of the doubt because it's not really fair to accuse when there's nothing beside me feeling a hunch to go on.
When they tell you.
Their eyes reveal a lot. Body language is another thing. I could spot my ex lying. His guilt
always showed on his face. Sometimes they may say something and the key is for you
is to remember what they say....then sometime later they say something different..then you can see
that they are lying. I have observed liars from the time I was a little girl. My father had an affair
with another woman and as a young girl I could spot when he was lying. Once you start to grill a
liar with questions, they become agitated and then you know
if you know the person well, you may--i repeat...may--be able to detect a hint of abnomality that might tell you something is off. but like kemetstry said, it depends on how good they are. i went through my "untrustworthy" period...we all did as teens. if i must say so myself, i was **** good at lying. i practiced it. i made it my business to be good. i'd have complete scenarios to support my lie. and having a very good memory, i could repeat that lie over the years...so as not to get caught up. so, unless the liar is new to lying...and let nerves be the tell-tail sign of his/her deceit...you could never know they're lying...unless they confess it to you.
