Inside project structures made of steel and brick
Concrete stairs are turned into magic carpets
Heading upward to the place young lovers go

Holding hands, skipping every other step
A boy and a girl make the journey
    A rite of inner-city passage
A teenage community bedroom if you will
Free from sudden sibling or parental intrusion

    Never out of season
Rooftop air breathed between teen-hot kisses
Hormonal urgency rules their young bodies
The excitement of intrigue rules their open minds
Black tar and gravel hold the secrets

It is here; alone with the one you “go with”
    Skirts are raised
    Pants are dropped
Only the ears of the sky will hear
Only the eyes of a summer sun will watch
