I can’t break my mind away
From what I heard the first time
The way the words rolled off his tongue
That delicate mix of rhyme and rhythm
Poetry written so deep
He had my mind spinning
Spinning in a soporific stance
If only I had the chance
I’d write my way inside his heart
I’d blend beautiful melodies
Then allow my lungs
To beat box
Lyrical izms upon him
For this man was a poet
And to know him was to want him
I guess you could say
He had some sort of
Magnetism about him
Cause he sent my heart singing
With his divine inspiration
Just the mere sensation
Of his vocal vibration
Had me tongue-tied
See this man was a poet
Armed with enough intellect
To stimulate any mind
Just watching him
Had me had me wishing
That I could be the pen
In his hand
That caresses his paper
Or maybe the Mic his holds so closely to his lips
As he spits words of passion
All over it…
You see this man was a poet
And he sent my mind on trips
Daydreaming at my desk
While the tick-tock of the clock couldn’t cease
My back to back thoughts of those lips…
Making me want to take of sip
Of his verbs
Or become one of those adjectives
****, I’d even settle for a metaphor
Metaphorically speaking…
For this man he was a poet
And I had to have him
Because when he speaks
He makes words come alive
He had that neo soul type of vibe
And the more I listened
The more I feel under his spell
He had the Langston Hughes
To cure all my blues
You see this man was a poet,
And to know him,
Was to love him.
