somewhere out there
In a dream I lost you
Somewhere
between here and there
in the midst of a sun drenched city
that hid the playful steps of your feet
upon scorched asphalt and split concrete

you left me to flounder in a sea
of unknown faces
cold stares of despair
defeat etched upon the brows
of wandering crowds

the outcasts
of never discovered happiness
raced to consume me
accept me as a kindred spirit
bitter jealous and envious
pleased by our separation
fueled by a singular desperation
to end us

to-get-her forever
they rushed to transform into
a for-get-her endeavor
lust whispered my name
with haunting eyes
a soft mimic of your voice
a disguise so clever

words the taste of honey
rolled slow and easy
into my ear speaking of
new pleasure a chaser of desire
so elegant America’s top models
appear lackluster and dim
by comparison

far off I glimpse you fading
into the distance between
clarity and unfamiliarity
leaving me
in the midst of temptation
designed to snare me as I
chase you through clear blue
avenues reflecting your
starlit smile that moves
faster than I can run

at the next turn
sitting and watching
the lazy afternoon slip
towards the open arms of twilight
an older woman wears your eyes
and I look into them for
a glimpse of your swift passing
but they only speak of
once upon a time
when she was young
so I look beyond
and discover you
have gone

leaving delectable forget-me-nots
tattooed upon my mind and heart
to ensure I will always
find my way home
