    Look At Us

    Where can we be found?
    We are being Cold-bloodiedly
    Shot
    D
    O
    W
    N

    An endangered specie

Facing a murderous gang in blue
    Badges and guns
Looking to destroy my ebony hue

    What shall we do?

Do we rise up and shine
Draw a line in the sand…take a stand
    Ready to do the time
To…take the fight to the man
~ Bad cops who’ve failed…To Serve and Protect
    Throwing innocent brothers in jail
    And it hasn’t stopped, yet

    We be crying ‘bout
    How things ‘spose to be
    While brothers be RoUnDeD up
    For wholesale butchery

    Whatcha gon’ do

    The Michael Browns of Missouri
    The Ezell Fords in Cali
    Trayvon
    The Bag woman
    Movie stars
    We all see
    Their system of justice
    Isn’t justice for me

    Do you see?

    An imbalanced application of
    Law & Order
Sweating the borders of The Hood
Like white people ain’t up to
    NO GOOD

    Trayvon woke us up
Michael Brown ignited the smoldering embers
    That lingered and simmered
    Just beneath an angry surface
    And you asked the question
“Didn’t we say that about Diallo?”

    “Are we even worthy?”

    Are we worth the deaths our forefathers sacrificed;
Sacrifices meant to empower our life
    Are we worth the respect
    Brothers and sisters give
    Husband or wife

    Where are we?

    Are we hiding
    Behind online castles of anonymity
Or social media worlds of heroic words
While our call for justice goes unheard

    Where are we?

    Do we recognize the times
Or, are we so caught up in
    “Gotta get mine”
    That we can’t recognize
    US

Are you so deep in imagined valleys of
    The Mother Land
    Screaming
    “I’m the Original Man”
That you refuse to be the man you are

    Do you doubt your worth
    …The strength of your voice
    If given a choice
    Would you stand for right
    Fight…
    To the death
    Give your very last breath
    For us

Have we not been enslaved long enough
Terrorized, imprisoned, or killed long enough
    That we can’t say
    Enough!
    Is enough.

    Look at us.

    Brothers dying

    Mothers and sisters crying
    Assaulted and raped
Relegated to a fate no woman should endure

    Look at us.

    Are we a beaten race?
    Defeated?

Hear the thunderous roar of our voice
    Recognize the choice before you
