no particular order... no "best"... just 5 Artists you like.. from any Form.. Music, Painting, Dance, Poetry, etc..
If you can.. include some sample of their work.. youtube.. images... etc.. And also some commentary on what resonates with you about their work..

Boney James... I know that this is probably sacrilege, but to me Boney was and is to modern jazz what Miles was to original creative jazz, even without the recognition.

Just 5? come on, feeling claustrophobic and cramped

Should have added relative content for the others, but thought they would be known:

    Chaka...

One of the few artists that sounds better live than on wax/plastic.

    X Clan my man...

"My verbs of power are the spiritual spank"

    Lalah...

One of the few female artists that can sing an Anita Baker tune, and make you forget it was an Anita Baker tune.

    And as for Ace...

    Wont give out too much

I lean heavily to jazz piano, yet love other artists for their instrument and talents.

    1) Ahmad Jamal, 2) jazz violinist Regina Carter, 3) bassist and young singer Esperanza Spalding, 4) vocalist Dianne Reeves, 5) jazz flutist Althea Rene.

****, how do you stop at five! From the past, Miles Davis, Dave Brubeck, Nancy Wilson, Milt Jackson, Oscar Peterson, Andre Previn....and on and on.
