Deep inside I knew it would happen
I knew one day you'd leave
Yet when you packed your bags
I found it hard to believe
The marriage has been over for years
My childhood memories are filled with screams and fights
Hiding under the bed and covering my ears
But as I watched you pack your bags
And then pull out the drive
The thing that hurt the most
Was that you didn't say good-bye
You just turned around and walked on out
You never said a word
I guess you were just too caught up in being free as a bird
In the end you'll be hurt more than me
Cause my graduation, husband and kids you'll never see
I've been told one day I'll forgive
But I'll never forget as long as I live

This is an excellent piece of work. One can feel the emotion of this poem, whether they can personally relate or not. I will not assume that you went thru this personally, because I write on things that I have never experienced personally. However, I will assume that you have a sensitive heart, with a great gift for expressing human reality.

Thanks for posting this well written piece,

Joyce
