I need to be set free from the beatens
To go out with my friends on the weekends
I want to be able to express my unique individuality
Not just show that I am black because that is what you want me to be
Because I am not
I really do not care what you think is hot
I am black, puerto rican and white
I hid for a long time but for I am now I put up a fight
I am tired of saying that I am just light skin
Because of your stupid husband that you do not want me offend
I want to express my true beauty
I hated when I was younger how you told me I would never be a cutie
I want to feel free
To decide who I want to see
I want to just be free to be me
So please mommy just let me be
