    Sitting on the edge of a pier
    I toss pebbles into the ripples
    Trying to keep the circle of
    Friends dancing in the waves;

    I lift my head to take a breath
    Inhaling the scent of blue seas
    Covered in crisp clean air holds
    My heart in peaceful suspension;

    I want to close my eyes to allow
    The sounds of water against the
    Pier to take me into a realm of
    Understanding life in simplicity;

    I lean back on the pier and close
    My eyes so that I can visit this
    Place as the quiet is visited by
    The conversations of seagulls;

    I like the serene for it gives me peace
    And I enjoy the quiet for it allows me
    To reflect on life as I see it without the
    interruption of another leap of faith

    My rest is interrupted by a voice
    Calling my name in the faintest
    Of familiarity and I lift up to see
    A figure standing before me;

    There are no boats or islands
    And yet I see this form awaiting
    Me, beckoning me to step away
    From the safety of this pier;

    I look to the seas to wonder how
    Deep is the waters for the pebbles
    I tossed sank so deep so fast;
    Shall I sink into the abyss also?

    There are no life preservers, no boat
    And yet this figure seeks for me
    To step forward into the water
    as though danger doesn’t exist;

    I never learned how to swim; I never
    Understood how to float and if I jump
    Then I know that I will sink deep into
    The darkness of the seas;

    This cannot be my destiny for my peace
    Is where I dwell, my comfort is good from
    where I stand and I have reached the
    Level of success planned for my life?

    Or have I...

    Sitting on the edge of a pier I toss pebbles
    into the ripples trying to keep the circle of
    Friends dancing in the waves so that when
    I jump they can carry me into my destiny;

    Always when I need them...

    are your encouraging words through poetry. I'm learning what it means to put my life in His hands. I started a job for a black business on Tuesday, and got a call last night not to return (through another employee). This morning I went to the office to call him and he offered me something better, a more flexed schedule and I can make more $$. Definately not what I desired or expected but, whatever God's will...is my will.

    Serenity!

    This is so serene--a wonderful floating feeling--sitting on the pier--watching the widening circles--well done--extremely well done--Amun-Ra
