    Hello Family,

I have some ceramic tile that needs to be put on my floors. I'm wondering if i can do this myself? Does anyone have experience they can share with me?

I'm willing to do it one tile at a time ... guess i gotta do it that way, huh? :)

What i mean is, i'm not in a hurry for the task to be completed, and even if i can only lay a few a day, that is fine with me.

Must i pay someone else to do this, or can i do it myself?

    Any tips?

    Thanks.

make sure you have a level area!!!!

What type of flooring are you covering? With tile its not too bad, need to make sure you either have a level surface to start with, or make one using a lando overlay(real thin plywood). use a good tile adhesive. trowel on about 1/8 inch thick, should say how thick on the adhesive can, you can buy a trowel with adhesive notchs on it so you get the correct depth. Leave about a 1/8in between tiles for grout, have a tile cutter on hand for any cuts you need to make. Use a chalk line inorder to make your rows and columns are straight. ensure that you press the tiles into the adhesive the same depth to create a even surface.

Hello, Welcome and Thank You Havilandks!

It's concrete under the current flooring, the actual foundation of the house i think (eeek). I don't have a tile cutter, but was thinking i could do all that i can with whole squares, and leave the edges for last ... then go somewhere and have them cut all the pieces i need. Is this reasonable?

I appreciate your advice, you make it sound straightforward and relatively easy.

Thanks again, and please, make yourself at home ... because you are!

Anyone else, if you have some tips, please share them as i need each and every one i can get!

Or you can normally rent a tile cutter.by the day, Its not hard but be carefull. and you will need to smooth the concrete floor. not use a lando cover. if your going to remove the current flooring, Old carpenter saying measure twice cut once

my floor and 1/3 of the walls are ceramic
I didn't do the job myself but my father did it and i help what he did was
made sure the floor & walls was level we then

1 covered it with what they call underlament it like a sheet board
to cover the floor so we have something smooth and grout it evenly

2 use grout you have to mix it to a paste or buy the ready grout

3 lay the tile as you grout it in , it's not that hard but hours of work
you can do it yourself but when grouting it can dry to like a concrete type
and would be hard to make the next tile fit correctly so i would say
it need to be completed not day by day and once the air hit the grout it
can get hard on you as well .

the other side of Ceramic tiles is they can become weaken and move from
the cracking of grout if the floor is cold most of the time if i see this i re-grout
the area which seem loose , also know that with ceramic tiles if you drop anything
heavy you can crack it and would need to dig it out and replace if not the floor can
start to look bad chairs with legs besure to pad the tips with rubber stoppers or
you can sit too hard and crack a tile this can be costly and time consuming

but yes you can if you willing to stay with it or you can mess it up many do
get a professional to do it so it come out right and don't break tiles trying to
cut them they have a tool for cutting ceramic tiles but you can break them
trying to cut them it's not hard but can be .

I hope this help a little sista

    Info here

Sister Destee the best thing to do is go to a Lowes Home Center and attend the free class they have on Saturday's. They will give a demonstration, printed information and a practical exercise on how to lay cermanic tile. Also check out this website. http://www.doityourself.com/ceramic/h2laytile.htm
