laughter it seems, is not always the best medicine
as we sit here together uncomfortably
trying to find a space between time and pleasure
as moments drift into dreams
i laugh in spite of myself
thinking what if i hadn't smiled that day
turning the corner by the cafe
catching warm eyes reflecting my secrets
we laughed at the suddeness of it all
too good to be a lie
perfect placement of intentions
as we laughed away our fears
she with me through the journey
one smile gently kissing the next
not perplexed by the reasoning
and we don't know our own souls
laughter it seems, is not always the best medicine
as the strangeness sets in slowly
we really know each other don't we?
or have we just taken advantage of our sins
i laugh at the mirror of revelation
denying the horsemen coming towards us
we laugh like love and live forever
amongst starry landscapes and closed eyes
the judgement comes all too soon
we laugh at the prospect of maybe it wasn't meant to be
after all you can capture a moment can't you?
we laugh at the thought of it
secure in our ignorance
laughter it seems, is not always the medicine
as we wander over how we tried
laughing away our hurt together
refusing to accept the visit of goodbye
we no longer laugh
its true as this last lust turns cold
this was not the thing to do
but we laugh uncomfortably to mask the lie
the world on the other side of the door beckons
as one tear falls helplessly
the laughter itself begins to cry
we cannot refuse the answer
and its too late to laugh again
so i go to my medicine cabinet
and close the door...
