Look at me,
I can smile for you
and tilt my head ~
I drink your rushing
words with my eager mouth
swallowing your every sentence
and I paint my lips for you
a fragrant red,
I even trace your brows with tutored
finger tips
When you rehearse your list of
loves to me...

How I laugh and marvel
rapturous-eyed ~ as you laugh back
but you could never see
the ten thousand deaths
my heart has died...
Yet you believe so well
that I know my part ~
...that I am happy as a toddler
playing in light snow...
But all the stressing things
within my heart
You will never know...

I laugh and listen
when we meet ~
As you bring your tales
of fresh adventurings --
Of times you've been
indiscreet ~
-- of lingering hands
and gently whispered things

And you are pleased with me ~
Singing me sagas of your life's
delights...
Do you want me?? -- Marveling,
happy, and true?
You don't see my staring eyes
of nights
when in search of novelties
you stray ~
I kiss you blithely as you go...

And what goes on
while you're away
You'll never even know...
