Black Women : Ladies...How should our daughters protect themselves

Its about how you would teach them to defend themselves at home or outside the home. Not tv.
I think that finding a safe place enroute to your home or work. Seek places to run to, if the opportunity presents itself. By professional help, are you speaking of martial arts, etc? If so, that is an absolute!

No, but that was my thought as a substitute for putting guns in the hands of children. If you want ACTIVE defense for them (vs. "prevention"), then martial arts is the way to go. And if you can afford to spend $600 for a handgun, you can afford martial arts school.

As for professional help, I was thinking that if it's not safe INSIDE your house.... and you don't know how to make it safe.... get professional help, e.g., counseling. Most EAP departments will pay for some kind of counseling, so that might come free.

Brother Skuder jaymes, I hope this is no conflict with your thread concerning boys.

Things are so different in society today. How are we teaching our daughters to defend themselves, when confronted with adverse conditions where physical fighting might be necessary for one's safety? What is the technique we should use or is using in this situation. I pray theres not many situations, but since bullying is so prevalent....and it seem that the teachers and parents are not being very effective. What should our dialogue be with our daughters?

..almost two years later.. I don't see any conflict.. ;)

but I think the assault that our daughters need to be taught to defend against is the psychological one launched at them from the moment the ultrasound reveals they are female.

As far as fighting and physical defense.. I say do it like the rest of nature.. like this:
