Black Poetry : Kicking off BLACK HISTORY MONTH

how is it that
each step taken
is another step back

could it be because
our first steps on this soil
were force upon us

no choice was given
or a ticket to be purchase

one way ride
cause the skin color
was the price
of that last ride

o this still matters now
it should not but it does
even if it is not really spoken out loud
it is the laws that has been written
in the doubts that has been placed in our mind..
the chain unseen by the eyes..
yet the weight is still so heavy

sick and tire
of being sick and tire

yet each step i do take
i pave the road
because it is the one behind me
that is the one pushing me

not to give up...

Jus to get by
Our modern battles
have become lifelong travels
where we strive to succeed
while we strive to achieve
as the open wounds bleed
painting the pictures of our history
the mystery
of the iniquity
we suffered
and now
we fight the trials
jus to get by
sistas tryin to buy baby's milk
with a paupers silk
jus to get by
brothas battling bias
to get a 9-5
jus to get by
and wonder why
they are weary inside
jus to get by
and though I cry
I would rather die
than let the struggle subside

Back In the Struggle

Sun on my back
Master hollerin' at me for all I lack
Puttin' cotton in my sack
Ain't got a dime to my name and this is a fact
Blacker than black
Sweat on my body is building me closer to that
Got a bag full now and I still haven't found my nack
For what I can do good, for this plantation got me held back
Back
Back
Back
Back
In the struggle

Got my cousin and momma sold just last week
And the heat
Of not being with them is up to it's peak
And the d@mn master won't even let me stop to take a leak
My hands are weak
And there are thorns in my feet
Lookin' for a life of my own and it's hard to seek
Cause this life ain't meant for me I'm back
Back
Back
Back
Back
In the struggle

I wish I wasn't here today
But what can I say
It's the life of a slave in every way
To work for these white folks that for me they pay
I am not a genius but hey
I was thinking that things ain't suppose to be this way
But that's okay
I will just live each day
Back
Back
Back
Back
In the struggle
In
The
Struggle

BEEN DOWN SO LONG! FINALLY ON MY WAY UP!

Been down so long, I'm finally on my way up.
Been on da boat,in da field and da house...
Bowed down and made to crawl like a mouse...
Skittering sometimes dodging the injustice in our lives.
But I've had my eye lifted to the prize
I know my reward ain't just in the skies!
Been down so long, I 'm finally learning to be free.
Got my eye on the rainbow and ain't no stopping me...
Been down so long, I got to struggle to be free.
Now I got my way made straight and I "m finally on my way
Can't you see?
