O'Rourke, Castro talk reparations at civil rights conference

Speaking at the four-day conference of the National Action Network, the civil rights organization founded by the Rev. Al Sharpton, former Texas Rep. Beto O'Rourke and former San Antonio Mayor Julian Castro weighed in on the topic. The question of whether to support reparations for African Americans as a means of addressing centuries of slavery and legal discrimination emerged as something of a litmus test earlier this year for Democratic presidential candidates...

Bernie Sanders now says 'there should be a study' on slavery reparations

...“There needs to be a study, but let me also say this, that I think that what we need to do … is to pay real attention to the most distressed communities in America,” he said. “We have got to use 10 percent of all federal funds to make sure that kids who need it get the education, get the jobs, get the environmental protection that they need, and that would be a major focus of my efforts.”

The conventional wisdom holds that there’s no faster way to lose an election than to propose a massive, direct racial transfer of wealth.

Reparations

THE AWKWARD TRUTH ABOUT DEMOCRATS AND REPARATIONS
The top-tier 2020 candidates have all endorsed the concept in theory, but are still dodging the most radical implications

...It goes without saying this is a major reversal for Democrats, even if many of them are allowing themselves plenty of wiggle room to define what “reparations” means. In many cases, they are simply pivoting to talk about pre-existing plans to close racial gaps in wealth or education, Polling suggests that the idea of reparations—defined here as paying money to people who are descendants of slaves—is overwhelmingly unpopular.

"Affected by slavery?!" Every slave descendant is "Affected by slavery" unless you're descended from all free people.
Now, I did see a youtube vid from Wanda Sykes where she told of her family from one of Louis Gates' "Finding Your Roots" episodes that one of her ancestors was a white Irish indentured servant who had a child with an African slave.
Since the children followed the mother, those descendants were free. But that was still just one side of her geneaology. So, the other side probably came from slaves.
Ion get this "Affected by slavery" stuff. Kampala and Elizabeth can have a seat.
