"Fix me a cool drink of water"
He said as he stumbled through the door
And up from my slumber I sprang immediately
A glass of water for him, to pour.

From a long day's work granddad had come
I knew how tired he must have been
I felt that work as hard as his
Should have been considered pure sin.

He came on in and took a seat
Bowed his head for a short time
I can only imagine his thoughts that day
Oftentimes, I wish that they were mine.

So, do you feel why I sprang to my feet
When he requested just a cool drink
That's the least I could do for that tired 'ol man
Just as he'd asked, don't you think?

Yes, that's the least that you could do.
What a blessing it must have been,
To have a grand around like you.

Thank you for this. You took me back to another place and time...when I shared pre-dawn mornings with my granddaddy....many many years ago now.

    Beautiful memories, thank you.
