something how things get pushed aside by
    time and circumstance...
i can greet cooley in church by touching cheeks
    (like old friends)
and warmly greet his new wife
it's not like i still exist in want for him
all that messed up history is still etched
on the walls of my basement room
the difference now is that the freshness of the hurt
has faded to memory and i rarely visit the ache
my heart no longer nervously beats upon sighting him
    i've grown and changed

    wow

his visits to my life used to throw off my whole ****
and now, that stuff doesn't even matter
    you can't change history
but you can be proactive for a healthy future.

Wildflower... it is amazing to me that you so eloquently put those feelings out there that are soooo universal. So many of us have done what seemed impossible at one point in our lives... gotten over him. Bravo! The triumph is great and really felt in this piece. Liberation from that chapter... ain't it great!!!!

I shole understand. It was like you'd never be able to let it go, then one day you wake up and realize that you've overcome. It does feel very, very good. Thanks for sharing!
