Jennifer Hudson has rejected giving monetary support to wrestler David Otunga, her former fiancé and father of David Jr., her 9-year-old son, amid their custody battle.

According to court documents recently obtained by The Blast, the singer asked a judge to deny Otunga’s request for her to cover his housing costs.
Since the pair never tied the knot, Hudson does not believe she is obligated to support her ex, who can go and get a job. She “denies that the child support should extend to housing subsidies for David when the parties were never married.”
In the claim, attorneys for the Voice UK judge also stated, “Nothing entitles David to live in a home identical to Jennifer’s.”
The Oscar-winning actress, 37, refuted the notion that because of her traveling schedule, Otunga, 39, was the primary caregiver for David Jr. She alleged that he was also on the road with WWE.

“[Jennifer] denies that her working and David either not working or professing not to work makes him more fit to personally care for the child in the City where the child attends school,” the court documents state. “To accept David’s proposition that because he is present, he is a better parent would be to do a disservice to working parents in general and to Jennifer in particular.”
Hudson’s legal team said, “Having a child with a celebrity should not be the basis to treat David like someone who has given birth to child and who has no means of supporting the child.”
It is alleged that the boy traveled with his mother prior to the hardships in his parents’ relationship that led to their split in 2017.
Hudson and Otunga were set to go to trial over custody later this month but are hoping to settle outside of court. A new hearing is scheduled for May.
