South Africa : Jacob Zuma/South Africa

... As far as I know, he has no "Swiss bank accounts" so not sure of what "not sharing the wealth with his people" means.

Nelson Mandela: Man of peace and justice, nobody's fool, and Master chess player in service to his people. :news:

No doubt, Madiba was shrewd as Mr. Obama indicated in his speech, with him it was :chess: and not checkers.

Zuma wasted millions of dollars, and recent reports reveal folk are angry with his failure to restore the landscape, bridges, etc...; not to mention being booed at the memorial ...

South Africa's Jacob Zuma spent $28 million of public money to make his house cooler

Zuma says it was all in the name of security, even the two AstroTurf soccer fields.

JOHANNESBURG, South Africa — To most South Africans, it is an unimaginable expense: $28 million in upgrades to President Jacob Zuma’s rural homestead, with taxpayers footing the bill.

Zuma, 70, a polygamist with four current wives and at least 20 children, has official residences in Pretoria, Cape Town and Durban, in addition to his Nkandla homestead.

“The government has even tried to justify the expenditure for vague security reasons, hiding behind provisions in the National Key Points Act,” Zille said in a statement, referring to apartheid-era secrecy legislation.

South Africa remains one of the world’s most unequal countries, with millions living in poverty and post-apartheid frustrations regularly boiling over into violent protests. Critics of the ruling African National Congress, or ANC, say the party and its newly wealthy leaders have lost touch with ordinary South Africans.

I have no problem with the article. But saying he "refuses to share the wealth" with his countrymen implies that he's some kind of "strong man" hoarding the wealth of the country in Swiss bank accounts. The "corruption" mentioned in the article is not a South African/Zuma phenomenon. It happens as much in the U.S. where "millions living in poverty and frustrations regularly boiling over into violent protests" occurs as well as in Europe.

Regardless of how its parsed, it boils down to wasteful, self-serving taxpayer spending, over, improving conditions for his people.

And it happens to black and poor people here, as well. So no need to talk about the dirt in Zuma's house when our own house is as filthy.

We are here because of a misunderstanding you had with my statement, and I've explained how Zuma didn't share acquired wealth with black South Africans.
