It’s Very Necessary

Is February really necessary
As the month we honor black history
Well in the other eleven months the ordinary
Way to go is to deny black people their integrity

Some pondered the need for Black Entertainment TV
Well with all the lily white channels presented to you and me
Over cable TV systems and satellite
Most of the other channels were progressively white

Some told us that the only things we were capable of
Was making babies and living in out of wedlock love
Many called us degrading names
Playing to the max their racist skin games

In many rural areas young black men
Had a short school year way back when
For they had to plant and harvest crops from the seeds
The farmers grew to supply the world and nation’s needs

And despite the Emancipation proclamation
Christian America still embraced segregation
As an acceptable biblical way of life
Heaping on black people racial strife

So getting back to the original question
Without any hesitation or discretion
As to is it necessary for February
To be black history month… it’s very necessary
