my vision of mississippi
hot roads
quiet towns
permanently stuck in the 50's
that’s where the turmoil struck
and everyone remains there
in a time warp
and then there’s love
love that reminds me of the 50's
when black pride was an amorphous thing
something that was contagious and liquid
warm with the vibrance of life
black pride
black history
now it’s a month
but it started down a dirt road
on a hot day
while walking barefoot
holding a stick in your hand
dreaming of far off and distant lands
valentines day?
what does it mean to you
since that’s the focus of love too
there’s black love
black history and black pride
doesn’t it pale in comparison
to red foil and cardboard velvet
chocolate and poked out lips
lest you forget when a sister is acting like
her name is meg
blonde hair and acrylic nails
where’s my stuff?
she cries out and pressures a brotha
not thinking about the road he took to get here
do i make this clear?
lets not get too stuck in a hallmark moment

"my vision of mississippi
hot roads
quiet towns
permanently stuck in the 50's "

interesting.

st valentine's day

hmmm

let's examine that

women want men to portray
the attributes of a
gentleman
from long ago
yet
we say to them
"be my valentine"

does that seem strange?

wasn't st valentine a man

fellas...
why are we asking
anyone to be our
MAN
sounds like it's the
ladies
who should be
sending flowers
bringing chocolates
and wine
writing poetry entitled
'be my valentine'

hmmm
