    If you believe in the notion of something being "ghetto," please explain in detail how something qualifies as such and provide examples of such things.

    Sometimes like the old blues song goes " It aint what u say , its how you say it". When used by whites , it often is used as a generalazation, especially when refering to black women. It puts us all into a generalized catagory. Its also used I notice even towards educated blacks who don't exhibit enough of a "white demeanor" I use it at times but I know the true essence of the word is powerful, direct , blunt. intimidating, or having a mini ruler's mentality. This is why whites try to shame us out of our natural way so to speak.Thats also why they rejoiced when Donald Trump made Amarrosa Cry. It was looked at as humbling the mighty black ******. We gotta be like Shaggy or Shabba and not be ashamed of being BOMBASTIC.

    Ghetto as used by the youth in the inner citiy

    as I have personaly heard it used is a checkpoint to put other youth in check regarding,
    wilding, disrespectful language and behavior around elders, and any behavior that denegrtes themselves and the race.

    I personaly find it to be commendable because in the 60s and 70s the Black nationalists had stronger terms like the term nhigga, as in nhiggas are scared of revolution;
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cpo1...157765B5&playnext=1&playnext_from=PL&index=30

    Amiri Baracka had coined the distinction of self awareness and those who abhored or fought against self awareness, and those who aspired to not only assimilate but be good house nefroes and accept the rugged individualism myth of white supremacy;

    He categorized 3 groups;
    1 nhhiggaz; hatred and fear of knowledge of self , or any knowledge period
    2 nhegroes; hatred of the concept of self sufficiency, and independence from whites
    3 Black people; hatred of white supremacy and a desperate desire to cure th above 2 categories from what Malcolm called the slave mind

    and he stated that before there can be any integration with whites there had to be integration between those 3 groups ( not that he was promoting integration, but for arguements sake.

    Chris Rock also made the distinction in some of his comedy routines

    Definition
    "-formerly the restricted quarter of many European cities in which Jews were required to live; "the Warsaw ghetto"
    --any segregated mode of living or working that results from bias or stereotyping
    --a poor densely populated city district occupied by a distinct impoverished group linked together by economic hardship and social restrictions"

    In this context anyone can live in a ghetto

    When we talk about the ghetto ,
    Originally used in Venice to describe the area where Jews were compelled to live, a ghetto is now described as a "portion of a city in which members of a minority live; especially because of social, legal, or economic pressure / poverty
    Hardship to many blacks
    The word "ghetto" actually comes from the word "getto" or "gheto", which means slag in venetian, and was used in this sense in a reference to a foundry where slag was stored located on the same island as the area of Jewish confinement
    The term came into widespread use in ghettos where the Jews were required to live prior to their transportation to concentration and death camps.
    The definition of "ghetto" still has a similar meaning, but referring to broader range of social situations, such as any poverty-stricken urban areas. A ghetto is formed in three ways

    1.As ports of illegal entry for racial minorities, and immigrant racial minorities.

    2.When the majority uses compulsion (typically violence, hostility, or legal barriers) to force minorities into particular areas.

    3.When economic conditions make it difficult for minority members to live in non-minority areas.

    Urban areas in the US can often be classified as "black" or "white", with the inhabitants primarily belonging to a homogenous racial grouping Forty years after the African-American civil rights era parts of the United States remain a residentially segregated society in which blacks and whites inhabit different neighborhoods. Cities throughout history have contained distinct ethnic districts Due to segregated conditions black neighborhoods in the United States have been called "ghettos". Many of these neighborhoods are in Northern cities where African Americans moved to escape the widespread racism of the South, to seek out employment opportunities in urban environments, and to pursue what was widely perceived to be a better life in the North ,projects was build to place lowly blacks in with a surrounding by Alcohol / drugs /guns to watch as we destroy ourselves but it failed as within the hood we did and still today destroy each other but we became dealers as well fast track and many poor whites fail into the prey of these very things , Ive walked the ghetto lived in the ghetto and suvived the ghetto of hardship / poverty stricted communities.
    Despite mainstream America’s use of the term "ghetto" to signify a poor, culturally or racially-homogenous urban area, those living in the area often used it to signify something positive. The black ghettos did not always contain dilapidated houses and deteriorating projects, nor were all of its residents poverty-stricken. For many African Americans, the ghetto was "home": a place representing authentic .

    here is where the conflict comes in

    The black ghettos did not always contain dilapidated houses and deteriorating projects, nor were all of its residents poverty-stricken. For many African Americans, the ghetto was "home": a place representing authentic

    Please take a look at Harlem during the time of Garvey,
    this ws not a ghetto;
    http://video.google.com/videoplay?d...vjKBQ&q=marcus+garvey&hl=en&client=firefox-a#
    with pride and dignity and a community code of honor , and respect it was not ghetto or the European term of it.

    Ghetto is a place were Black folks use any means necessary to get their children out of , while the rappers glorify it.

    Look at the term HOOD, it used to be NEIGHBORHOOD

    but they took the NEIGHBORLINESS out so now it's just HOOD

    and I seriously mean no disrespect to anyone here, when I state that one can only speak about this from the perspective of actually living in the ghetto.

    You may have a goldfish tank in your house but how do you know those fish are not bitter and really want to be free?
