..and america has more obese people because they are able to afford the lifestyle they want to live and indulge in different things easier than some people in other places
I'm not too sure about better economics playing a large role as it seems to me the most obese are the ones not so well off, economically. Perhaps 'good food' is more expensive than junk food? In addition, the EU has a junk food outlet (McD and the like) on every corner but their populations are not as near as obese as the USA - perhaps because cuturally, the majority of people still cook dinner at home? anyway...
In answer to the question on whether junk food is killing us - of course it is!! It's called 'junk' for a reason Mass produced as cheap as possible and full of everything the body doesn't need.
I agree with Keita on the water intake. The whole 8 glasses a day remains quite controversial.
