    Is individualism wrong?

Should we as blacks ONLY and solely think collectively?

Do you feel that it's too dangerous and possibly too soon for us as blacks to think as individuals?

This is why I love African folk! They have the best behaviorisms.

You tell a European--I'm done with you--you two are done.

You tell an African and they fish for you.

As to the question: Individualism is a Philosophy introduced into Europe around the 1700s with Hobbes et al.

It's not an African Philosophy. So again, you are discussing Europeans with Black skin.

I'm going to bed. But you know that I'm one of them Europeans with Black skin (Or American African, if you will.)

That's why I can tell you that I cut my hair because my whole school thought that Black hair is ugly.

But you would be hard pressed to find someone talking about White folk having naturally ugly hair.

    Good night, Sis.

It's one thing to be an individual. We are all individuals.
"Individualism" as a concept/ideology is something else.

first one must define what individualism is and then form an analysis based on such.

Well, if I am understanding your question correctly, this has been asked/discussed here before, just in different ways....

....like "What comes first for you: your 'religion,' your 'race' or your 'nationality?"

....or "SHOULD black people unite regardless of religion?"

So, as for "individualism" versus "collectivism," Black people have, historically, denounced and maligned other Black people who did not think/behave as they think/behave. Some have accused the other Black people's ideology or behavior as "self-hate" or they label them as "uncle toms" or "handkerchief heads" or "sell-outs" or "betrayers" or "infiltrators," etc...

Now, this is not to say that some Black people have not been these things; but I've also seen how these things have been blanket attributions to some Black people just because they thought/behaved differently from some others. ---Moreover, people and events also have to be put into historical context.

.....So, if your "individualism" is deemed as counter to "the Black collective/Black Unity," then no, you are not allowed your "individuality" because then you are "working for the white man."
