In a nondescript office in a nondescript building, John H. Howard carries out an uncommon mission.
“We want to create a viable black business community. We want to create jobs,” said Howard. “But we also want to eliminate the idea that I didn’t get it because I was black.”
Howard is president of the Palm Beach County Black Business Investment Corp. For nearly three decades, this BBIC has been the bridge between African-American business owners and banks. It’s given entrepreneurs advice and it’s given banks loan guarantees — as much as 50 percent — so worthy businesses receive the capital they need to succeed.
