Over the years, there have been countless debates over whether Black people in America should date other racial groups. Obviously, there are some tensions between African American men and women in terms of relationships which is why these debates arise in the first place.

But how many of you have ever considered or actually have dated Black people from other countries or with ancestry going back to other countries?

It seems to be a growing trend:
Carmelo and Lala Anthony(African American and Puerto Rican)
Kase and Eileen Lawal (Cameroonian and African American)

    What do yall think?

International means relating to or involving two or more nations, countries, or states.

Interracial means relating to or involving two or more races (which cannot be genetically defined, therefore it is a political construct).

At some point in the history of the word race, it meant tribe.

I know what my eyes tell me. Racially, I recognize Black people when I see them, and as long as they are good peeps, regardless of their global positioning, Black-on-Black love is a GOOD thing. I'm thinking the original poster simply meant to inquire whether or not, for African/Black Americans, the option of hooking up with other nations of Black people better than marrying interracially. For me, the answer is an unwavering "yes." It would no doubt take work to balance out those cultural differences but the same thing would have to be done with other races---and usually to our detriment rather than cohesive empowerment.

I concur. This is also similar in opinion to Dr. Claud Anderson.

What about instances where, by American standards, a person maybe be considered Black but back home in their own country, they maybe considered something else?

For example, by American standards, at least 75% of the Dominican Republic is black. And if he were in America, their president would be considered Black. But based on their own consensus data only about 11% are categorized as Black and their president - correct me if I'm wrong here - is considered "mestizo" which I think means mixed.

    How would that work out?

Again, my eyes and instinct tell me what I need to know. Technically, many folks in this country are prone to blackize the grand dragon of the kkk if they found out that he or she had one black ancestor who was a slave in 10th century China; so I don't put much stock in these definitions. The others manipulate the identities of black people based on what they think will keep them in control. So, at any given point, they could classify Alex Wek as a Japanese gypsy if they thought it was to their advantage in some way. Basically, the person (man in my case) would have to know the deal; they'd have to understand what dynamics are at play in their culture. There are black people in every culture who know what's the what.
