Jails / Prisons : Institutional Racism and the Prison Industrial Complex

Tru'dat.

It is no mistake why you don't here those cats on the radio/video or getting mainstream press.

Not soley because they drop gems, but because the powers that be know that many of us don't read, unless its a steamy love novel, jet/ebony and the like.

There is a small bookstore that I frequent. I can't tell you how many sista's go into that store heading straight for the love-sex-novels. Oh, and books by t.d. jakes, LOL!
sad facts partner sad facts,
we had a store here in Albee mall here in Brooklyn that wa reduced to selling Donald Goines,
nowthe mall is no longer there, maybe te ancestors did that cause thereis an excellent Black Afrocentric book stoe just 3 blocks north doing just fine andstays packed.

FYI

We know enough about this system now, to at least be circumventing it, directing our babies around it.

Yet ... they (we) continue to fall in the trap.

Why can't we keep our babies out of prison?

Chuck:

Perhaps if we had more young black lawyers to be aiding them honest and sincere overworked/ununderpaid public defenders etc., some of our young people wouldn't get so easily railroaded into jail, and/or on the basis of their own ignorance about the law, etc., in the first place!

Also our people in general are kinda sorta ignorant that only a relative handful are responsible for those truly serious acts of violence against the rest of us...

On the other hand:

Why some do pick the wrong paths has to do with how the white capitalist controlled mass (madness) media machine(s) overhype what are really some folks desperates means to an end--as in--to just survive--as though none of us ever did or do have to rise above and beyond the same crap they haven't found the right (rather than the wrong) ways to...

Though there's also that ole saying:

"The master knows the slaves well: Because he created them!"

Simply put:

One and all gotta quit blurring the distnction between folk choosing any means to just survive, as opposed to all means necessary to resist our and our peoples enemies exploiting and oppressing us all...

Nothing new or news about the modern day rappers either:

And our choice to accept what those who are saying what we need to be hearing, i. e., which was or is about issues and problems us older folk either don't admit or into denial about via our own midst, as opposed to reject more excuses, being put forth by some who are just making noise,
(as well as a few who aren't making much sense)...

Interesting post, you know some Whites will tell you that slavery was not a money making instituttion and that they were civilizing Africans by doing it so there was realy no colusion involved.

Now tat it is clearly documented that the prisons have become a source of cheap labor some Blacks will say there is no colusion to fill the jails for maximum profits.

Play the devils advocate for just one minute f you can stretch your imagination, you are in charge of gov. funds as a corporate or Wall street mogul who has wheeled his way into the White House.

Is it more profitable in the long run

to build and provide so much money in scholarships for someone to graduate and have to pay them 40 dollars per hour?

Or is t more profitable to tighten his capabilities and opportunities so that same youth winds up in jail
were you can pay him 40 dollars per week?
