Black Poetry : Inspiration

I hope this inspires

My great-grandmother just passed a couple of sundays ago.. and i wrote a piece dedicated to her from all of her generations. Amazing it applied and everyone who has been in her presence at one point in their life could relate.. I don't know how to condole someone on a loss.. (it always seem to come out wrong... for me anyway) but I do hope it inspires.

DEDICATED TO MY: Great Grandmother
I GUESS SHE IS MY IDOL

I remember, at her, my first gaze…
Just in sight I gave her praise…
The look upon her face…
Her steps in a steady pace…
Even then she was ancient in her age…
Yet in her sight I long to praise.

For her strength through all those years…
To look out for her children…
Drying tears.
For her love of self worth and family…
For always having a good word…
Right on time. Or shall I say when it’s handy.

She is, was and will always be… Amazing!!!
In the calmness of her stresses….
In the sternness of her lessons…
In the embrace of her hug…
Or the grip of her hand...
In everyway she showed each one of us love.

I would never doubt that she didn’t care…
From her offerings to her blessings…
To my assistance in scratching her dry, yet soft, flaky hair.
But in that arena... I think most of her children have had their share!

See, she could be perceived as mean…
But it was her sternness or stubbornness…
That gave off a perception that wasn’t what it really seemed.
Because her concern was shown in the eyes…
Her questions left no room for close-ended answers…
Or covered up disguise…
Fact is… from her… nothing you could hide…
And at her command you shall abide…

But respect came without hesitation…
She was my elder, our elder…
Almost the start of our generation.
Set by example… leading by faith…
She was a woman filled with Will and Grace!!!
No grandmother, No other Great Grandmother…
Could take her place.
Blessed with a husband that loves her through and through…
BY and BY… With the Lord by their side…
They created a beautiful family too!!!
Filled with love and lots of care…
Tons of support and knowing that in the end…
They will always be there…
“Maybe not when you want them”…
“But right on time”…
And that was a saying… grandma distilled…
Maybe not in others…
But definitely in my mind…

Yes she was my IDOL… in old age and young…
Listening to her about her old days…
And how much she had fun…
Told of how she loved to dance…
And shake a tale feather…
I know our bloodline runs deep…
For that holds true from Aunt, to Uncle, Sister and Brother…

Say it ain’t so grandma…
I knew you were ready to go…
But you were waiting for the right time…
Blessed to be reminded…
When the year came to an end…
Blessed to see all your children…
Yes they came... visited and went…
Must have been your request…
From the blessings sent…
For the upcoming year…
Yes you went…
Now like an angle in the sky…
I praise the heavens to have blessed us with an angel…
For you are now our family’s' guide…
Heavenly sent…
Able to watch over all your children…
Guiding them from this earthly sin.

And I am grateful to know you... for all those years and beautiful days.
A memory that will never be distorted…
A memory that will never go away.
You are the beginning…
To our Godly repentance.
You are our light to salvation…
In the upcoming days of judgment.

Thank you for your presence.
The uplifting of your essence.
God Bless your soul…
In hopes this loss will make our family bond tighter…
As we may unite as a whole.

I LOVE YOU!!!
WE LOVE YOU!!!
ALWAYS….

Your family and loved ones are in my heart and prayers. IT is those days... We all must humble ourselves and pray. A work in progess...
