Innocent in shooting, Nicetown youth spent five months in prison

By rights, Lionel Franks should have graduated from high school in June, near the top of his class.

By rights, he already should have started his freshman year at Lincoln University, studying culinary arts.

By rights, he should have been anywhere but in jail for five of the most important months of his teenage life, accused of shooting a man 12 times on a North Philadelphia street.

Franks' bad-dream detour into the city's criminal-justice system began April 9, a Friday mostly spent touring the Lincoln campus in rural Chester County. Back home in his Nicetown neighborhood by midafternoon, he changed into an Adidas sweat suit, green with white stripes down the pants and sleeves, and went shopping for sneakers at a sporting-goods store on Germantown Avenue.

Minutes into the return trip, Franks was swarmed by police. A man had just been gunned down 12 blocks away, they told him, and two witnesses had identified him as the shooter.

Franks showed the officers his bag from Olympia Sports and his new shoes. "You got the wrong guy!" he protested as they cuffed him.

This goes on and will continue to go on

let's face it , even here in NYC when Black and poor parents cannot afford a good 1200 dollar attorney or have networks of church or community toput upthe funds, folks get burned

our tax dollars had paid forthat, yet we have not established a national voting stragey as schools fail, crime rises and all of our good, excelelnthard working young men and young women are looked at as

not humans but sheep to be fleeced at a profit by the
Prison Industrial Complex

Every minute that brother spent in the system, the system was making money on his suffering and the suffering of his family
and more then likely his life is ruined because in some states you cannot get a job even if one has an arrst without a conviction

So as the economy declines do you think, the system cares about Black suffering?
or the bottom line of their profits as public /private penal systems and the annual report to be presented to their investors

At present with the national African American GDP

we have enough money so that every Black family could have a
private legal council both civic and criminal

Will this happen?

Only if we work collectively on it

otherwise we will see more and more of these kinds of reports as the economy declines

the conspiracy theorists say the Illuminati maintain power and control, by destroying or harming the good and the innocent, while rewarding the evil and the wicked

ironically the same tactics they used on African young men (Franz Fanon) during colonization, they seem to be useing here on our children

And why the wall fo silence regading gang activity?

It has been a long time since there has been a post dealing specificaly with the gang issue from any sate or any nation posted here,

in 2 years

Is there any excuse to allow gangs in our neighborhoods?

so is there any think tank or Black organization
working on scientificaly combining the efforts of
Dr Amos Wilson,
Dr Jawanzaa Kunjufu,
or Dr Joy DeGruy

on reversing this national pathology amongst our youth???

As the economy declines

who will pay the youth an allowance?
poor parents?
or the CIA and the Cosa Nostra?????

I see someone has not read thru the many threads majorily titled:

"blame a black man"



- so hell bent on defending massa's system that even in the face of absolute innocence "they are justified" for detaining any black person even when store video clears him of being any where near the scene at the time of the crime!

these type of "black-ers" make me sick...

it really is interesting to watch.. I remember when oscar grant was killed
by that cop.. I asked an older black lady if she heard about it.. and her first
response was, "he didn't mean to kill that boy!".. and she said it in a way
that stressed her heartfelt sorrow for the cop and very general coldness
for "that boy".. I asked her did she see the video and she said, in a
loose careless kind of way, "yeah, I saw it".. there was no empathy for Oscar at all. Their
was no outrage at his life being taken.. there was just the immediate
defense of the Nazi cop. I bet if she were to talk to his family, she would
give them some king james inspired nonsense about forgiveness.. the
system of white supremacy is cold-genius in that it turns the victims into
agents of their own victimization.. and they don't even know it.. they think
they're being 'objective' or 'fair'.. they're giving the cop the benefit of the
doubt even though we have witnesses and video and all kinds of evidence
that eliminates all doubt.. they still give them 'the benefit of the
doubt'.. but there's none so what are they really giving them?
and where does the burning impulse to give it emanate from?

..and why does this thing that they give so freely to them not exist for their own people?

This article is a PR campaign. One of the things that stands out to me is this
passage:

"All these police started shooting out from everywhere," Franks recalled.
They ordered his friends to "keep on moving," he said, and arrested him.

Why didn't they arrest his friends? The shooter supposedly jumped into the
passenger seat of a black car.. someone had to be driving.. there could have
been up to 3 other people in that black car.. why not arrest them all and
question them? I'll tell you why: it's because they just need an arrest.. it
doesn't matter if he did it.. they just need to get a black person in there and
charge them with the crime.. case closed. He was wearing green sweats,
that's enough. What happened to the car? Why would he run to the car, just
to get out a few blocks later and walk casually with his friends so close to the
scene of the crime? These are questions the cops should consider before
making an arrest. This case is in the news because some ADA did his job, but
that should not release our criticism of the cops. If this kid couldn't afford a
lawyer and had had any kind of prior record, he would have been scared into
taking a plea by a court appointed lawyer.. and we would never have heard of
him.. their are thousands of innocent folks.. our innocent folks railroaded into
the prison system in this way.. they don't have money to buy a defense.. and that's
why those of us that are conscious of what we are up against in this country
recognize game where game is being played.. and it's why we give our folks
the benefit of the doubt and are suspicious of cops with witnesses.

sure it's painful and it hurts but we as a people is the product of this made system
