Some people were shouting out loud
Seemingly in some mental rage
Some were dressed in furs and the new Fendi bag in suede
Some were in grief because they didn't get paid

Black women push baby carriages with children with blonde hair
Young guitarist played intensely
Young poets read fiercely
White-collar workers chatted briefly
Homeless men shined shoes sparkling
Young kids day dreamed deeply
Squirrels climb trees highly
Tourist took pictures quietly
Saxophones played loudly
Panhandlers beg for money discreetly
Someone sat next to me
Told me
They just moved from Paris

Dreams were being built
Liquor was consuming guilt
Ground zero was not in the front page as I sat and read the wall street journal in Washington square
