Saw stars that have been lost in night skies
And we’ve been lost for a long time
Trying to find our way back to daydreams
I’ve seen us lose todays and waste tomorrows
In reassurance that our eyes will see galaxies

Saw what I could’ve been and could’ve had
But settled for scarred fairytales
With the stench of cliché smells
Compelled to blink, I
Played staring games with reality
Sadly beating me every time as we
Make decisions without foundation

Reevaluated life when death said hi while
We sacrifice eternal for temporary things
Deemed ruler over lustful things
As man sells his lies to women’s thighs and
Her heart sells her trust to Man
****, HIV was fast to catch

Sat and watched my brain waves
Coast along oceans of Sunday sermons
But last Saturday, I lost my religion in a blink
No patience to think, I just acted
And now it’s time for judgment
But where did all the time go?
I could’ve been doing something bigger
Something good, something better
In the blink of an eye, I
Found myself at Rock bottom
But used to decorate heaven’s pedestals
Took my faith to the hospital
To be reworked when God seemed to not hear me

Used to bathe in sunshine
But now the sun is never on time
In the drop of a dime
Rainy days come more often
It happened that quick
My homeboy lost his life to a bullet and
My father lost his freedom in prison and
My entire race lost the focus on a mission

Politicians destroyed what I believe in
In the blink of an eye
My grandmother cried
When Obama showed her what she believed in
Tears stick to memories as love was lost in a blink
As cheating becomes easier and
Actually loving someone becomes harder
It happened in an instant
Where young daughters have daughters and
Immature boys become fathers
Hundreds become dollars and
Dollars become quarters
Thanks to this Economy
History dies in the blink of an eye
If we’re not willing to save it
****, it happened just that quick
Murder, Infidelity, War, Poverty
Greed, Deception, Loss, Aggression
A continuum of wrong direction
Life happens in the blink of an eye
And it hurts sometimes, but we have to hold on to it
As pain happens fast
Change can take years
But in the blink of an eye…
