she silenced my lips
and sealed my heart
for what seemed like
an eternity
because
after she left
I didn’t have anything
to say of importance
there was no one
to speak tenderness to
and no one to share
a private joke with

I couldn’t even say
grace…right
so use to thanking
God for the hands
that prepared
the food I was about
to receive for the
nourishment of my body

after she left I
couldn’t feel anything
my well ran dry
there was no
symmetry, no beauty,
no poetry

without her
there is no one
and
no way
I can honestly say “I love you”
