Aiight, does anybody know what a mental illness is? Aiight, I assume most of ya'll don't most of US don't know about it. Well, guess what? I do. A mental illness is a sickness that affects how a person acts toward things. Particularly, a normal person. Aiight let's cut to the chase, there's one illness I wanna talk about................bipolar disorder. 2.7 million African-Americans in the U.S. have bipolar disorder and don't know. As a matter of fact, Jenifer Lewis, DMX, Martin Lawrence, and Bobby Brown all have bipolar disorder. My grandma and grandfather had it. My dad has it. Yeah, you guessed I got it too.......but with medication and intense interpersonal, cognitive-behavioral, or family therapy weekly.......it can be managed effectively The symptoms of bipolar disorder are the following
Mania(severe highs):
-feelking "high", euphoric
-Irratability, restlessness
-Racing thoughts, nonstop talking
-Increased energy, sleeplessness
-Inflated self esteem, poor judgement
-Spending spress and/or other activities with high potential for painful consequences
Depression(severe lows):
-Sadness, hopelessness
-Excessive feelings of guilt, worthlessness
-Difficulty concentrating, making decisions
-Loss of self-esteem
-Drug or alcohol use
-Suicidal thoughts, plans, or attempts
