My goodness, Brother O...you break it down so plain that it makes me wanna jump up and shout.
Listen, Black people, yes, it's very important that we understand our history. It's important to know who you are and where you came from. True, our ancestors were dealt a bad hand of cards when it comes to how we were brought here and how we've been treated ever since. It's critical for us to know the construct of racism and how it continues to impact our lives. Yes, we need the most effective effective possible that will allow us to take better control of our future. Without question we need to be better fathers and mothers, husbands, wives and just be decent, honest and caring overall. But, in the meantime, while we're thinking about all these things and talking about them, there's a system in place that is not standing still waiting while we figure ourselves out and it is designed to leave us behind if we don't take what we have today...all of our current resources...and put them to good use to create something for ourselves. Many of us are already, but more of us need to start thinking in survival mode. We need to and can work with what we've got right now. We weren't born last night. If we agree on nothing else, we need to be agreeing on what we see in terms of the handwriting on the walls and make pledges to do SOMETHING each and every day to prevent us from getting swallowed up by these super powers that could care less about us and do care more about how much more money they can make and who else they can control.
But Brother O...what do you think about unity among Black people? I mean, you hear it all the time..."The problem with Black folk is they aren't unified." Well there are threads here that focus on that and like anything else, you get varied opinions. But when you think about it, aren't Republicans a unified group? Can't they be viewed as a "fraternity"? For the most part, regardless of whether they're conservatives or liberals among them, they push the same agenda. How else can they be defeated, if we don't act as a cohesive unit as Black people? And I'm not suggesting it be in the form of the Democratic Party either. We need a cohesive agenda, a mutual purpose with established goals. We need to spearhead campaigns for membership. We need to elect our leaders who will carry out that agenda. We need a financial war chest and the ability to make "friends" on a global level who we can offer "incentives" to and who, in turn, will support us. It's not going to happen over night but we need to start. The Tavis Smiley project and Farrakhan project...these may be viable launch pads but Black people need to seriously look at the concepts being proposed and who is in charge before we commit ourselves to any group just because someone jumped up first and said follow me.
What do you think?
Whew....Queenie
