I'm going on a treasure hunt
and what do you think I should bring?
    A chisel, a shovel, and maybe a
drill, and a sack to carry everything.
I'll wear some boots, cause the muck
could get deep, ya know, just in case.
And a protective mask, in the off chance
the truth smacks me in the face
I can't forget my map, even
    though it's in secret code
I'll make sure I bring my TNT
yea, something may have to explode.
You may wonder why I have to go thru
this, it may even seem uncouth
The lengths a person has to go to
sometimes, simply to get to the truth.
    I'll chisel thru the avoidances
I'll shovel out all of the sh........
I'll use my drill to bore a hole in your facade
Guess what, I can see part of it!
Can't drill a hole quite large enough
I'll have to blast through the rubble
I'm still asking myself why I even
bother going through all this trouble
    Let me take cover...KABOOM!!!!
Look!!! All these jewels, silver and gold
The sheen and sparkle of all these precious
gems, is almost too much to behold
The funny thing is, it took so much
unnecessary effort to finally see what's true
I don't even want the treasure any more
so now my excavation is through....

    Wow...
Isn't life funny, and yet sad, ...I have lived that poem one time. And I did exactly what you did.
...why should we have to bomb the ring,
    to discover...there lies a "king"
I'm feeling this one very deeply...thanks for the memories.

Wow, this reminded me of an experience I had back in 2000. It really hit home. But the truth, once you find it, is definitely freeing.

Seems like the memories were bittersweet, queentswana. No, it shouldn't be that hard, thank you for your response.
Took you back too, huh jazzymoonchild? Truth is freeing, this is true, thank you.
Rich what you're saying sounds like one of those tricky presents...the ones where when you open one, it turns into another smaller one, and then another, etc. Pretty crafty response. Thank you.

I always want to see the truth, blkangel, especially after I see the lie. Truth is always freeing regardless of when, or under what circumstances it is seen. But anyway, interesting point of view. Thanks for your response on this one.

So so true Sister Watz; you have such a way of setting the stage of your poetry, it gave me the sense of actually working in a mine or doing some real manual labor... but most of all..."the ending"....was so powerful (been there done that)

if it were real treasure I would still want it because of it's worth...but somehow when it comes to people...the melody is quite different...and the value is never quite the same

    Excellent Write!
